You stated for the record that posters here "compensate for their poor intellectuality by compensating with sophistic rants typical of most Americans?"
And you don't think that saying that is arrogant and ignorant? You condescendingly make a generalisation (the sign of true ignorance).
Hope this helps! Cheers, mate.

The answers that people give are only ignorant because the person answering doesn't know the fundamentals of the discussion.
When you read a response, the source must be considered (ie: are they the older generation and maybe they do know what actually happened because they were there?) Would you expect a senior citizen to know all the latest pop, rock, soul or rap stars? It's doubtful, therefore they stick with what they 'know.'
If there are non-believers in any religion, then why go into a religious/spiritual forum and knock what those folks believe in? That is ignorance as well as arrogance.
I for one never give vague answers, but I have also received violations for things that should not have been violations and I responded to YA to ask if they actually read the question and what I answered. They never responded back, which means 'there was no violation' because I didn't say anything derogatory by their rules.
When a person reports abuse, it should be against YA guidelines and not because they didn't get the answer they wanted. So my suggestion to everyone who feels the way you do, if you'll think you will get offended by an answer they may give to a ludicrous statement or question, then either don't ask or just give it a thumbs down.

We are living in the age of instant gratification, where young people get their information with rapidity and ease; no work involved. Unfortunately, very little critical thinking is applied by the new generation. They treat news like it's another ringtone from Verizon wireless. Their attention span is barely sufficient for the MTV sound bites that are the basis of their "informed opinion".
When people actually had to seek out news, and read more intellectually oriented books, they had to put some energy into the learning process. Now everything is just spoon fed to them. How can we expect rational thought and logical arguments when "news" is just some throwaway tidbit you hear between the next Britney Spears video?
I have been very irritated myself when I posted very carefully worded questions, only to get irrelevant nonsense or ranting. No one takes the time or effort to actually think about the issues because real expertise is no longer valued. People somehow feel that they can liberally expouse on any subject, no matter if they have any knowledge of it or not.
How else could college kids have the audacity to dismiss President after President as a "jerk" or "an idiot"? Do they honestly believe these people just stumbled into these positions like Forest Gump?
One thing I firmly believe is this: a firm command of ones language is a pre-requisite to in-depth thinking. People just assume that it's always the other way around, that intellectually accomplished people have a large vocabulary, but have you ever noticed that a lot of peoples' conversations never seem to stray from the same few words and phrases? It's because they never think of anything that requires a larger vocabulary.
It's like the parody of the uneducated NBA player who just parrots the same tired old lines, "You just play one game at a time. There's no "i" in team....." They don't say anything else because their active vocabulary is so limited that the thoughts never form in their minds.
Listen to rap music. It's like the vocabulary list that never graduated from the sixth grade.
Recently, I heard a couple arguing in a cafe. Both of them spoke that absolutely dreadful type of English you would hear in a low class part of Britain. All these two could do was spew four letter words back and forth. Even when they weren't swearing, I never heard them use any words that a kid in fourth grade wouldn't know.
I am convinced that this couple act like savages with each other (and speak the same way too) because, whether through lack of education or disuse, they no longer think any elevated thoughts, just low-level, base likes and dislikes. It was the equivalent of listening to cavemen grunting about food.
So, we get these imbecilic answers because people just aren't accustomed to in depth thinking anymore.

The space aliens mixed their DNA in chimps a long time ago to create humans so they could now come and take children as slaves.and that's also why the humans think so weirdly.I am immune tho because I am a Bigfoot creature.and we live in vast underground city's waiting for the aliens to realize their mistake and exterminate you humans parasites so we may reclaim our world as your all trying your best to destroy it.PROFOUND? you can not get any more PROFOUND then this human.also your Jews cause all wars, and the space aliens .The Grey's.who or evil.from a strange and distant world.control your governments.on this planet.May the Great and all knowing spirit of the Yeti be with you till your all destroyed, by FIRE.

Whether you agree or not with what people post, you have to appreciate the fact that discourse is available to one and all through this site. I respond in the hope that maybe what I say can help someone, change someone's mind about an issue, or just make them think. Yes, some of the questions are ridiculous and poorly worded - but Answers is a true cross section of American society. ( Another thing about it that makes it endearing.) If you expect profundity - try forums specific to an area in which you are interested or in which you consider yourself an expert. I, for one, enjoy hearing what others think no matter what their IQ or level of education.

There is the whole range here. Those who really want to express something. Those who get a kick out of acting like a fool. Those that hold very strong opinions (some CAN support their beliefs, ALOT can not). And those that have actually thought about what they have to say and understand enough to make legitimate claims.

Most answers are opinions. Everybody has one. Some make sense and some don't. If you mean deceitful or misleading by sophistic rants then just watch any main stream news media outlet. There is little news and lots of sophistic rants. I can choose to watch it and form my own opinion or not watch it all.
It is the same with these posts. If you don't like them, don't read them, but please don't take away our freedom to rant! :)
If your phrase is intended to mean something else, please define it .

Yours is so profound that it has nothing related to politics or government. If you are so smart at least you should read the rules.

This is a great forum, but it is a general forum open to anyone. You'll find funny answers as well as serious answers, but you're not going to find Machiavelli.
