I was wondering, if you lived in Chicage, Illinois, how would one choose which team to root for, the Cubs or the White Sox?

It depends ...

If you want to root for Chicago's second team in a relatively empty stadium with no character, choose the White Sox.

If you want to root for Chicago's favorite team, in a stadium full of history, flavor, and people, choose the Cubs.

When you are at the stadium, you can talk Cubs baseball and baseball history to almost anyone you sitting next to you.

You get to see the ivy on the walls in the summer at Wrigley. Comiskey has boring walls.

Over time, the Cubs have a better record than the White Sox.(see the reference below)

So, in my opinion, there is no choice... be a Cubs fan.

This is a trick question right? Chicage not Chicago! You are fooling us.

The answer is no longer North Side vs. South Side.
With the suburban sprawl, there is a mix of both. I am a north side Sox fan who lives 2 miles from Wrigley Field (Over-rated!!).
This might help you - Cub's have one of the highest ticket prices, just raised them $2 - 5 dollars a seat after losing 96 games, and are owned by the mighty tribune company.
The Sox are the underdog of the city. More people like the Cubs. But don't believe the hype - you can like both teams.

It also depends upon whether you like the AL or NL. Personally it wouldn't matter which side of the town I lived on, I would cheer for the Cubs because I think all players should have to hit the ball.

It would mostly depend on whether you lived in the North (Cubs) or South (ChiSox) side of the city. There could be exceptions like family favoring a certain team or you just like the players on one of the teams. You don't always have to choose the team closest to your home to be your favorite.

It depends on if you live on the north side or the south side. Or you could decide by which Chicago area baseball player is your favorite Or, you could go by what your favorite uniform is or how many championships a team won. There are many different ways to decide what your favorite team should be. And, another option would be to take two pieces of paper or two 3X5 cards, write the teams name on each, crumple it, put it in a hat, and whatever you unravel, will be your favorite team. Flipping a coin is another way to settle it. You can't go wrong with any of the options that I have mentioned.

chicago traditionally has favored the Cubs till recently. Mostly for the ballpark. You go to wrigley hope the Cubs win but the fans and there love of the Cubs and the park itself is just wonderul. Nothing is better then Wrigley on a summer day.

If you grew up in Chicago, you pick up the love for a team from how your raised. Family and friends will have one particular team and it'll rub off on you. Once you choose, its pretty much sacralidge to change teams. A minority of people like to root for both teams, but then they're not true fans. If you really can't decide then baseball just isn't for you.

Sox fans are stupid because they like socks, so the only logical choice is the cubs.

Whats the difference between a dead sox fan in the middle of the road and a dead raccoon in the middle of the road?

There are skid-marks in front of the raccoon.

To some it depends of you're from the North (Cubs) or the South (Sox) side of the city. To others it's just a matter of preference or family upbringing.
