I am 12 weeks pregnant with my first baby, I have actually lost 5 lbs and I am at a healthy, average weight. I am hoping to gain the average amount of weight: 25-35 lbs. But who knows how much I will gain! :)

How much weight did you gain when you were pregnant?

I would like to know why you gained so much weight? Multiple pregnancy - twins triplets? Quit paying attention to what you ate? That has more to do with this problem than just exercise. Normal weight gain is expected to be about 20+ a few pounds for a full term pregnancy with one baby. More weight does raise up red flags. Almost all of the physical activities that you did before becoming pregnant can be done after you are pregnant. Good exercise is important no matter what your condition is. The four best are swimming, running - if you are sure footed and will not slip and fall, walking which is much safer than running, and bicycling. Swim laps in the local pool. It is good and easy on the body while helping stretch the muscles and maintain the flexibility you need for good health. Walk every day. I don't know what the distance is that is recommended, but you should do at least a mile a day. Pay attention to what you are eating and drinking. Sugar is taboo and most processed foods contain some sort of sugar so avoid processed foods and make your meals from scratch. Besides, using fresh foods is cheaper and provides more meals for the money. Make sure you are eating 7 fresh fruits and vegetables every day - divide them up for your meals, 2 for breakfast, 3 for lunch and 2 for dinner. Dinner should be the lightest meal and breakfast the biggest but in America we have it backwards and eat the biggest meal at dinner time. The logic is that when you wake up you will burn off your breakfast foods, but you sleep on your food consumed from dinners. Also as an added FYI, meats like beef and pork are muscle meats and take 3 days longer to digest than fruits and vegetables.

One of the more visible parts of motherhood is the weight fluctuations, and pretty much everything goes as long as you and the baby are healthy. My first one I lost 15 lbs and was terrified because I had hyperemesis (really bad morning sickness all the time which didnt stop till he came out). But I managed to gain 15 by the time he was born and bounced right back.
Totally different experience the second baby though.. with her, I gained 40 lbs and am still packing the last five or so with me forever.

I am 29 weeks right now and I've gained about 30 lbs. I had hoped to only gain 35 the whole time, but Christmas was really killer. Hopefully what they say about weight gain slowing down towards the end will be true for me!

I lost 4 pounds in my first trimester due to all-day sickness, but I'm at 28 weeks and have gained 12 pounds so far.

If you are at a healthy weight for your body, you shouldn't gain more than 25 pounds in total.

the average is 25-30 lbs. I have 5 weeks left and have almost hit 30 pounds. I lost some too, but I count from what I weighed at the beginning, not what I lost during sickness.

With my son i gained 80lbs but was on bedrest most of the pregnancy. Also my docs wanted me to gain more weight becuase i am 5'9 and started the pregnancy at 120 which is underweight. This time i am 5 months along and i already gained 25 lbs, But this time to i started the pregnancy at around 123 which is under weight. My doc said to think about it like i am really soppoused to weight around 145 anyway. ANd to just start counting from there.

I gained 26 lbs. I am tall and about 30 lbs. overweight, so I watched what I ate during my pregnancy. I also had gestational diabetes, but I was able to control it with diet. Within 2 weeks after I delivered, I had lost all my pregnancy weight, plus 20 lbs.

My sister-in-law had a baby last summer. She actually lost 13 lbs. during her pregnancy because she had terrible morning sickness. Her daughter was healthy though.

With my first, 25lbs, and with my second, 19lbs. My third was tricky, I actually lost 10lbs because my morning sickness was so bad, in the end I gained the 10lbs back plus 23 for a total of 33lbs. Pretty average. Your best bet is to eat healthy and excercise. I did both with my last pregnancy and actually looked the best out of the three, even though I gained more weight.
