All clowns are male. When need be they are one of the few fish who will change sex to female to procreate. Don't worry. If you have two, chances are one will be male and one female.

Do not believe the crap you have heard here. MOST fish are not males. Clowns are the rare fish that are males with the alpha turning female to ensure breeding. Very few fresh water fish do this. Other than they changed, there is no way to tell the females from the males.

Clowns can change sex when they choose to mate. Typically the male is smaller

Generally any fish you buy is a male. Compared in size between male and female, the males will be brighter in color and usually much smaller. Or, ask the store that you bought them from.

Females are generally larger and if you introduce two that are different sizes the larger will usually "become" female if it isn't already.

give them each a little pink shirt and a little blue shirt; and see which one they choose. (p.s. this may not work if one of them is gay)
