I've always wanted to learn- but never had an opportunity. Is this a discipline you have to learn as a child- or can an adult learn? Do you think any ballet teachers would be willing to work with a novice adult?

There are many levels to your questions. Physically, the question is more of an individual one than an age one. Yes there are teachers who will work with you, they may be harder to find, you may have to work around your embarrassment, you would be better off if you already love and are skilled in other forms of dance, your chances to become a professional are probably very slim. But your chances of learning something that gives you Joy in every movement you make from now on are great, also the chance to have others appreciate this art you give to life are also great. The question I really think you are asking is, "I always wanted to,,, what if I don't?" The risks are great, but will strengthen your character regardless. The question to ask yourself is, "How great a cost will my regret be, if I never try?" Break a leg! (And let us know if you'd like a cheering section at your first recital!! LOL)

I think that you can start taking ballet at 25. I started back dancing at 25 after being off for 3 years. Now what you want to do with this training is a different story. Please don't anticipate starting a professional career. This is a dance of great discipline and training. As we get older it is much harder to get our bodies to do things that its never done before.
You also have to take into consideration the amount of training you've had previously. If you've not had any body movement training, then this will be exceptionally difficult. But if you're dedicated to learning everything that is required to be good at this discipline, then you'll go a long way.
The advantage of being older and starting something like this is that we know what kind of discipline it takes to be successful at something. plus you can pay for as much training as you want and can afford. i know the reason that i've been successful in getting my body back into dancer shape is because i had the money to pay for all the classes i wanted to take. and i knew that there could be no goofing off like i did as a teenager. but don't worry because in the end i'm sure you'll do fine. good luck!!

Nope, anyone can learn ballet as long as they can stand on there toes. It's too late to go professional, but you can still get very far with ballet. And after a few years of hard work, you'll be able to go en pointe! Many teachers have adult classes. Most are willing to teach anyone who wants to learn. Check your phone book for local studios if you haven't already gotten one in mind. You won't regret joining! It'll be hard at first but the longer you stick with it, the easier it gets.

Of course you could start ballet at 25. my dance school offers dance classes to beginner adults. you just have to be willing to put alot of time into it and be diciplined enough to work hard and stick with it. I've been dancing for almost ten years and it really doesn't matter what age you start.

If you are willing to pay, they are willing to teach generally. Starting so late in life will be a great disadvantage, but if you aren't looking to be very good you should be ok. Some of the kids in my old troupe had started at ridiculously early ages and they are still considered late achievers. So yes, you are at a disadvantage, but if you can take EXTREME criticism and are willing to pay a hefty buck amount you are set.

Yes you can learn at 25, you just couldn't try to start a professional career at 25. I took beginning classes at a community college near by house that was full of people of varying ages.

Well it's easier when you are and adult to learn the rules and follow them. ballet teachers may be happy and a little frustrated but if they have the patience and u have the patience then you can become a great dancer!!!!!!! Good Luck!!!!!!!!! :)

it's definately not too late to learn. in fact you may do a little better than a young child because your balance will be a **** load better. i think you could get a teacher pretty easy, as long as you are fit.

Sure! Its never to late too start! :)
There are beginner adults with no experience who are much older than twenty five and start taking intermediate classes with the pre-proffesionals at my studio! :)

No, actually because my aunt is 27 and she got back into ballet cause she thought that it would calm her nerves.
