The world is heating up. And India and China are undergoing rapid development. Can we afford to cut emissions at the cost of development? Why should we?

Well considering how India and China have massive populations (in general), and high concentration of folks living near coastal areas, I would say that slightly slowing down industrialization would perhaps save billions down the road in terms of environmental damage. Also, you've probably noticed the pandemonium and social unrest that occurs after a major disaster, thus compounding the problems of global warming. Therefore, I believe its only right that India/China cap their emissions because they're only shooting themselves in the foot by not doing so.

At any rate, I'm still not crazy about America's refusal to the Kyoto Protocol.

The idea that cutting carbon emissions would hurt developing countries is simply absurd. How is it a bad thing to have a cleaner environment? Fossil fuels are only going to get more expensive - and this is going to hurt the developing Asian economies more than any kind of move toward green energy ever would.
