Depending on your stove, there may be a button that says self clean or a knob you have to switch. All you have to do is make sure the oven has nothing in it (no baking sheets, etc) and turn on self clean. Most ovens will lock, and will heat up to a high temperature. Some will beep when you're done. It's a great feature to have, and a lot easier than cleaning it yourself! Make sure you look up your oven make/model online - you might be able to find a user manual that will give you more detailed instructions.

When self cleaning ovens are put into action the heat in the oven rises much higher than can be dialed for cooking. The high heat breaks down any organic substance to ash-make sure you wipe down the oven with a sponge and water to remove the ash (of course -after the oven cooles)

They heat up to close to 600 degrees and it turns all the built up junk and splatters into ash. I think it's still kinda' messy, wiping it all out, but not difficult:) They have a new product out that you can use on self cleaners, and it might be less time consuming..because the other process takes several hours and uses alot of electricity. And it's kind of scary, because sometimes it smokes and you think it's going to burst into flames:) Don't let your oven get too bad before you clean it.

When you set it up and the little lock engages, 5 small guys jump out and get scrubbing. This is why it gets so hot... can you imagine 5 people scrubbing in the oven? So small?... wow... these guys come with the oven and eat the stuff that boils over at thanksgiving and stuff... low maintenance for sure... get one!

They just heat up to 500 degrees or more and everything gets burned off. Generally you need to wipe them down after it cools down. Or use Easy-Off or some other product.
