I've always wondered about the cars the last year of their generation that are sitting on dealer lots... what happens to them when brand new editions come out?

Ex: Think of the 2007 Toyota Highlander... its in the last year of its generation. When the 2008 redesigned Highlander comes out, what happens to '07s that are sitting in dealer lots?

They sell them at killer prices. I bought my 2005 Nissan Altima in August of 2005 and the 2006's were already comming out, so they sell them at a great deal so that they don't have to eat the cost and have a car sitting on the lot. I got mine for $500.00 over invoice, which means they bought the car from Nissan for $18,000.00 and I bought it for $18,500.00. So they only made $500.00, but at least they didn't loose anything!

The dealers will sell them at a discount. For example:look at the Nissan Altimas on the lot right now, they just changed editions (styling/body/lights etc) this year and still have some of last year's cars around. You know what, I PERSONALLY like the style of the older ones so I would be happy buying the older style from the lot now (and even happier because it is cheaper!)

Normally, at the end of a model year, dealerships will mark down cars they haven't been able to sell to make room for the newer models. It's a good time to shop if you're looking for a bargain.

The dealerships mark them down a couple of thousand dollars in order to sell them quicker.

Sometimes they get transferred to other dealerships when a client in another area is looking for one. Standard policy among dealerships of a kind.

Voila!
