I'd have to say MJ & Scottie...... Because MJ made Scottie a legendary player. The other players were already combined with another legendary players(except for Shaq & Kobe, Shaq made Kobe).

Bill Russell and Sam Jones.

Played together for 12 seasons, won 10 rings together.

Both Hall of Famers.

Both Top 50 players as well.

Jones would have been remembered as the greatest clutch shooter in NBA history, except there was no ESPN in those days. But he still holds the record for the most points scored in a game 7, with 47 (against Oscar Robertson... Russell scored 20 in that game)

In Game 7 of the 65 East finals (Havlicek stole the ball), Jones had a quiet 37 points... Russell's line: 15 pts, 29 rebounds, nine assists.

In Game 7, 66 Finals, Jones hit a jumper from 35 feet with 25 seconds to go, Celtics won 95-93 (no three pointer in those days, of course). Russell had 25 pts and 32 rebounds in that game.

Jones was 9-0 in game 7s. He averaged over 27 pts/game in game 7s, which was 10 points above his regular-season scoring average. How many players in history average 53% more points in game 7s than they averaged during the regular season?

If i have to rank the best 1-2 punch, they would go in this order:

1) MJ and Pippen
2) Magic and Kareem
3) Malone and Stockton
4) Wilt and West
5) Shaq and Kobe

MJ and Pippen are #1 because without a Pippen, you don't have a MJ. They both knew what it took to win (six championships) and their chemistry was excellent!
Magic and Kareem are at #2 because even though both were exceptional players, they are both capable of taking over the game anytime separately (even though one may be injured) and without Magic giving it to Kareem, you wouldn't be looking at the leading scorer in NBA history (38,387 points).
Stockton and Malone are #3 because, well, isn't it obvious? STOCKTON TO MALONE--HAMMER DUNK! Stockton knew where to put the ball at all times and the Mailman knew how to deliver.
Wilt and West are #4 because just like Magic and Kareem, if one was on the floor, you were in trouble and if you got two, well, you're in some serious trouble!
Shaq and Kobe are #5 because even though both made each other better, they will go down in history as the dynamic duo who wasn't able to get along and co-exist together.

It's gotta be MJ and Scottie. If it hadn't been for those 2 players, the Bulls wouldn't have ever won 6 NBA Championships. And I agree, there's no way that Scottie would've ever reached the top best players ever list had he not played on the Bulls w/ Michael Jordan. While it is a team game, the entire offense at that time revolved around MJ and Scottie.

My second choice would've been Magic and Kareem.

But I will say that it depends on what time it was. Every 10 or so years we have a 1-2 punch that does something extraordinary that we usually think is the best when in fact we don't really know since they never played against earlier teams.

mj & pippen without a doubt. malone & stockton never won. shaq & kobe didnt have a good relationship. and well- magic & kareem ; wilt & west. i'm too young for them. you dont hear or see as many highlights from them in comparison to the mj / pippen duo.

Growing up in Utah, it's hard not to say Stockton & Malone. But the others won titles. That's what truly seperates good from great, or in this case, greater from greatest. Pippen and MJ won 6 titles together. Pretty tough to top that. They get my vote.

MJ & Pippen are simply because their winners plain and simple, won the biggest games.
Though if things go well, Melo and Iverson will become a great 1-2 punch. I would also like to see Yao and McGrady become one, because they're both awesome players.

Please it's MJ and Pippen... But Wilt and West were the best for their time but nobody will ever do it like MJ and Pippen... 72-10 record 6 rings in 8 years... Yeah... It was just magical...

Wilt and whoever he was playing with... Shaq says he was most dominant, Wilt proved it.

By the way, the whole Shaq made Kobe comment proves your an idiot.
