what reasons would a manufacturer give for producing a Mobile phone for young children?

They start 'em off young, it's a marketing strategy. In the world we live in today people have grown to think that when you want to talk to someone they should always be reachable... They sell the idea of kids having phones by telling parents they need them in case of emergencies. We no longer live in the world we did just 5 or 10 years ago. I think it's silly too!

Mainly for safety reasons or emergencies.
There are phones out there that are targeted at that specific crowd, they have minimal features and can only be used to call the numbers programmed into them, and the child cannot unlock or change them, it's under parental lock.

i'd imagine that perchance its because further and extra mum and dad are too busy operating to be able to observe over their children after college hours...and that a cellular telephone may be their thanks to continuously be sure they are ok. a minimum of there are some cell phones in my opinion catered to children, for example the Teddyfone or the LG Migo.
