He must be he just won a superbowl with a team whose defense cost him many in the past. The guy has more mvps than 26 starting quarterbacks put together right now and he has the highest passing rating and passing percentage since 1998 of any qb.

Peyton Manning i think now is the best QB in the modern era (in the last 10 years). Tom Brady is a great QB too, but Peyton statistically better, and Brady won more superbowls. winning super bowls is a team effort, and QB ratings are mostly the QB, and some parts the Receivers.

The Modern era of football began with the completion of the AFL-NFL merger.

Since that time, there have been many great ones; but I would have to say that Joe Montana, Roger Staubach, Bob Griese, John Elway and Brett Favre are ranked above Peyton Manning. That's not to say he won't be, just not now. By the way, Peytons dad, Archie Manning, never won a title, but he was definitely one of the best of the modern era, also probably the most courageous.

I think Manning still has more convincing to do to be the best QB in this decade. His regular season stats are convincing, but Tom Brady has the three Super Bowl rings. He should have won a fourth if his defense didn't turn ancient in the second half of the AFC Championship game. Regular season provides greatness, but the playoffs make legends. That's why I can't say Dan Marino is the greatest QB in history.

I think Favre has the edge today because of longevity. He won his one Super Bowl and he's accumulated a lot of yards, but he has been careless with the ball. Remember that 6 INT game in the playoffs against the Rams in 2002...

Tom Brady is second because he has three rings with no Hall of Fame receivers. I think Manning can be the best QB if he matches or comes close to matching Brady's number of rings. So if Brady never wins another ring, I think Manning needs to win at least 1 more to have a real argument.

What are you considering the modern era? Just the 21st century? Cause he is the best quarterback of the 21st century. Aikman was the best of the 90's, Montana was the best of the 80's, Bradshaw was the best of the 70's, and Starr was the best of the 60's. Before that the QB position was played a completely different way.

Yes. Peyton Manning kinda reminds me of a mobile, throwback 1950's quarterback with his movements when he drops back into the pocket. But he made it so effective that the Indianapolis Colts ended up winning the Super Bowl. Naturally, the QB is the leader, so that's where it is. He's also the best when it comes down to preparation because that is where you really win the game.

What about Jonny U? He would be considered the first "modern era" QB and the one all others after have to be compared to. Manning, at the end of his career will be in the Montana/Unitas/Elway/Marino conversation.

The next tier of greats would include Namath, Aikman, Bradshaw, and perhaps Brady (who might be the second or third best dink and dunk QB of all time).

PS for all of you Brady lovers, he is not even close to Montana/Manning/Unitas/Elway/Marino, the 5 best QB's of all time no matter how you order them. One player does not a team make, and if you had to choose between Marino and Brady to run say, the Ravens of this year (to pick a good offensively challenged team) if you know anything about football you pick Marino every time.

Yes he is the best quarterback of the modern era and possibly the best of all time. Now that he finally got his Superbowl ring and the Superbowl MVP I think that when his career is over he will be the best quarterback to ever play the game

Two rebuttals. First of all, Brett Favre???? He's too careless with the ball and only one super bowl with great teams. Look at his postseason stats the past 10 seasons. Next, someone said look at Peyton's fantasy stats. That's just idiotic. I love fantasy football but those don't determine how good a player is. Peyton's TD:Int ratio indicates this but you have to admit that he's got great weapons. This is why TOM BRADY is the best in the modern era. He has average recievers but always has his team in position to win.
