I had HSG done last week, report says, one tube is normal whereas other is blocked. Dr. said its not the end of the world. Still can go with IUI. So I was wondering if I IUI is good idea? Is there any risk? Has anybody done that before please let me know. Very curious and desprate. Thank You.

IUI is fine with only 1 open tube. It simply means your odds are about half of those of someone with both tubes open. Often when an HSG shows one tube closed it can be due to a spasm of the uterus and tube and the tube really isn't blocked. They initially thought one of my tubes was blocked so they had me roll around and lay on my side for a few minutes and then they checked again and it was open.
When an egg is released it can be picked up by either tube so it is possible to ovulate from your right ovary and the left tube pick up the egg. The average success rate of an IUI cycle is 15-20% so yours would be about 10%.

My friend conceived both of her children through IUI due to her husbands sperm count. I think the success rate of an IUI is higher than that of IVF. I don't know if there are any risks. I think this is something your doctor could answer much better. IUI's are more common now that I would think they are safe.

My fertility specialist told me that hsg's can be very theraputic, even if you don't have any blockage. However, considering you do have one blocked tube, it decreases your chances of conceiving by 50% since most women alternate ovulating between ovaries each month. Therefore, depending on how soon you are anxious to get pregnant, an IUI might be the route to go. Best of luck to you.
