.......without having to format the computer?

Depending on the situation and who's trying to recover the data. If you are just hiding what you did from your mom, then maybe deleting the history, cookie and temp internet files is good enough. If you are hiding something from the FBI, well, they can recover files even if you reformat the hard drive. The only way to ensure that nobody can ever recover anything from your hard drive is to physically destroy the platters.

Hey,

There is no way to do it without formatting the computer. You can do as the others suggested going into internet options and clearing the history, cookies and deleting files.

After that, the only thing that you can do is get a low level formatting tool and pass over it with 0s about 1000 times. In which case somebody would have to hire a data recovery specialist in order to retrieve any files. You have less and less of a chance to recover something if it has been written over tons of times. You could also try doing a google search for a tool that disguises all entries into IE. For instance... say you went kayjewelers.com and you didn't want someone special to see this. This tool would say that you went to google.com. It might take some searching, but you could probably find it.

Regards,

Brandon

Here is a five-step method using a hammer.

1. Take the cover off your computer.
2. Take the hard drive out of your computer.
3. Smash hard drive repeatedly with a hammer.
4. Buy a new hard drive.
5. Stop watching porn.

Hint: If you don't have a hammer, you could substitute a baseball bat or a large rock.

After deleting all cookies, history and temp. internet files there will still be registry entries that are not deleted. You can try a "registry cleaner" (registry mechanic or similar) that deletes leftover entries that no longer point to existing files and then defrag your hard drive which compacts everything by re-writing. Trial versions of cleaners do not delete all entries, you must purchase it for full deletions. In the future if you must access naughty sites, go through an "anonymizer" ($) which accesses sites through a "proxy". Porn sites are notoriously impossible to eradicate. They plan it that way.

You'll need a program called DOD wipe..

DOD .. means US Department of Defense of Defense 5220.22 compliant wiping.

The program is available at the link provided below.

Despite all the urban myths relative to recovering data that has been overwritten with this type of program, it has been proved to work reliably.

Good Luck
