my husband would get written up if he wasn't wearing the proper safety attire, this includes a hard hat and goggles. i would tell the guy that it is nothing against his religion, it is a safety matter. if something falls the turban is not going to protect his life. if he is outside of the hard hat area like in a meeting then he would be more than welcome to wear the turban, but in the hard hat area he has to follow the rules. -the rules are not made up by your boss, they are rules made up by the state, and for the safety of the company and employees. if someone dies because a company wasn't enforcing safety rules then they could be shut down. *if the worker cried discrimination i would consult with a lawyer and research options for the person. but i would hope that a genuine person would have an alternative to a turban so we can all be happy and safe. ***EDIT*** i considered over the hard hat, the thing is it would have to be light weight so as to not make the hard hat slip to the side or off altogether. if they found a way for that then sure.. but i would have to see it while they were moving around so i knew it was still safe.

This is a rather seasonal sort of job, but in the southern states if you wish to play the role of one of the Wise Men in a live Nativity scene or a Christmas play, you must wear a fireman's helmet. That may seem odd to Yanks but all us hillbillies know the good book clearly says the wise men came from a "far."
