On a good day, you can travel on I-90 East and get to the Loop in about 20-25 minutes. Restaurants in downtown Chicago are best on Michigan Avenue

Except at rush hour it is quicker to drive than to take public transportation to O'Hare, though the 'L' does save you the hassle of fighting traffic. By car it's usually 20 - 25 minutes from O'Hare to downtown at off hours. During morning rush it can take an hour or more (to go about 12 miles). The O'Hare 'L' station is in the subway, connected by moving walkways to all the terminals. Any train you board at O'Hare will be a blue line train that will take you downtown. Most blue line trains head to Forest Park, although a few rush hour trains will say "54/Cermak". They all go downtown, though. It will take 45 - 50 minutes to get from the airport to the Loop. The first downtown station is Clark/Lake. The next one, Washington, is right in the heart of everything.

A lot of Chicago's best restaurants are actually not downtown, but in residential neighborhoods. However, both by car and by public transit you'll probably go downtown first and then fan out from there.

20 minutes from I90 to the Loop w/no traffic.

In rush hour traffic it can take up to an hour.

On the EL, take the Blue Line from O'Hare (you'll see 2 trains, 1 side the trains will say O'Hare, and the other I THINK says Forrest Park or something ) and that will probably take you at least 30-60 minutes, depending on the time of day and/or whether you're on an express train or one that stops at every platform.

The Grand Lux Cafe' is a fabulous restaurant....and it's so totally GRAND too. You should see it. It's on the corner of Michigan & Ohio. You can look it up on the web...a little pricey, but worth it! They have the most delicious chocolate chip & pecan cookies & they bake them while you eat!

Oh, and do yourself a favor & take a taxi!!!

No traffic 20 minutes. Traffic God be with ya. The best steak in Chicago by far is at Gene and Georgettis located on Franklin and Illinois St.

15 minutes by car, if there is no traffic. Chicago has a good mass- transit system, and there should be a metro train that leaves from O'hare and surrounding areas to downtown.
