I like the word SMIRK for this...SNEER is good, too, but seems to lack that verbal bite. Smirk is a smile that makes you wonder what is going on in the smirker's head. A sneer is obvious. Grimace might work, but a certain hamburger fast food chain has taken the sinister aspects away from the word.

malicious means bad, so yes, I guess that's a way of putting it. Unfortunately I always associate malicious with types of cancers. Obviously it means they are bad too. Maybe just keep it with 'evil' smile ;)
