My schools starting one and Im thinking of joining so Im curious what theyre like.

Well they are reallyl strict on spelling, so it might be a tough go for you with spelling like Where instead of Were... Get your spelling squared away and you can have fun. You won't get the huge scoop like the principal is stealing the cafeteria snow cone money, but it's still cool. Especially if you have a cool teacher like Mrs. Churchman at East High School.

I was the editor for my high school news paper. It was typically a lot of fun. Just make sure you report accurately, especially in this day and age of the "sue happy" people. Our paper got sued for slander even reporting something that was true. Fortunately, we won and had a great year. Make sure you have the facts to back up what you report, but also remember that the 1st amendment is your friend and your sources can remain anonymous.

I had a ball. We got out of class early to go around taking pictures and doing interviews and had a great time 'digging' up the dirt at the school. We reported on everything from who's seeing who to what is the mystery meat in the cafeteria. If you get a chance, go for it. You won't regret it.

We had a blast on our newspaper. Mind you it was a Catholic High School, but we were able to push the envelope, poke fun and go with the (high) times.
