I use Sonic record now because it doesnt save the files to my computer like windows media does. The problem is is that it either wont burn a disc, or it takes like 5 times to burn it. Can anyone help me? It never burns the first time. It writes a disc, then i put in a blank one, and it says that there was an error and retry. I usually have to try it 3-5 times. Any suggestions?

A few things:

1) Make sure you've defragged

2) If you have a lot of programs running on startup, learn how to disable or stop some of them

3) Don't run anything else while you're burning including surfing the net, downloading, or playing music - they all access the hard drive and use memory (which can lead to paging memory out and hard drive accesses which can cause errors)

4) Don't burn at the fastest speed - the slower the speed the fewer burn errors. Note that you only get notified of errors if they aren't correctable so even a successful burn could be full of multiple errors that were all correctable - those could show up bad on different hardware.

5) Try a different brand of CD/DVD - all brands are not created equal, some are much worse and some much better. Some web sites list which ones work best with certain drives.

6) Make sure you have the latest update of sonic and your hardware drivers.

7) Search the net for firmware update for your model cd burner.
