Well with how well you asked the question, I couldn't help but answer. I've kept many bugs. Butterflies... Walking sticks... and Pray Mantis Hope you find them well! Lady bugs are good too though... :)

I would say a Tarantula, but you have to be a little careful in handling them. They will bite when they're scared.
A really nice, easy to keep pet is a Ball Python. Their maximum recorded length is 6 feet, and most of them won't grow past 5 feet in captivity. They start out small (anywhere from 6 inches) and grow with you.
They eat baby mice (called pinkies) at first, and later full-grown mice.
They only have to eat about once a week when they're really small, then every other week, and finally about every 3-4 weeks when they're grown.
They are not poisonous and are easily handled. The cage has to be ventilated (like an aquarium with a mesh top), and they have to have a 'hot rock'. This is essential for their digestion - without a hot rock, they'll die.
They transport really well in a pillow case for a few hours, but then they have to have access to water for drinking and bathing. Some times, they'll just lay in the water and soak, especially before they shed their skin.
The Ball Python is about the tamest snake you can find, and you can pet it and carry it around with you - unlike an insect that you just keep in a cage.

Well, I WAS going to suggest a cricket. The Chinese have kept them for centuries. Maybe a grasshopper instead. Or a praying mantis?
