My Friend was in the hospital for 2 months & we (his loved ones) have witnessed some tremendous neglect & irresponsibility on the parts of the hospital staff, which we are following up on. I was wondering, however, about the specific responsiblities of the PCA (Patient Care Assistant, sometimes called Patient Care Technician). Are there universally recognized standards that describe the duties of the PCA, or does it vary from hospital to hospital? My Friend's niece is a nurse, and said that when she was a PCA, she had to bathe & otherwise tend the hygeine of patients who were unable to do so for themselves. I've seen nothing of this during my Friend's entire hospital stay!

Each state has its own qualifications.
Most of these staff members are not certified by the state. They take a course at college, a hospital, or elsewhere. Some of them are very professional in their manner and care of the patients. Please don't judge them all on your bad experience.
Continue to report the employees who don't do their jobs. They need to be removed!!

yes i know..they do as little as possible..have more interest in when there next break is..and have a gang mentality..so if you confront 1 of them ..be prepared....the Nurse is supposed to be the one to get them to do what they are supposed to do..you should see waht goes on when no-one is looking..i have met 2 good ones..i know they care..i wish they all were as good as the 2 i know..the course to be a PCA is 6 months and offered to any one that wants to make pretty good $$ at least where i live..
