i live in a basement of a house. it is very cold & it smells. i pay 425 a month which includes everything. this is in greensburg, pennsylvania. i hate it. the fridge does not work right. it freezes everything. i have complained to the landlord but he has done nothing. anyway, i don't think i signed a lease. i have only lived there since september of 2006. i am looking for another apartment. if i signed a lease & i just move out, can my landlord do anything to me? i was supposed to pay him a security deposit but could only come up with $150.00. i don't care if he keeps it. i will clean the apartment. what will he do if i don't tell him & just move out? can he go after me? what if there was no lease? i really need help on this asap.
thank you

I don't know your real estate laws where you live, but according to where I live, one should sign a lease - be it month to month or 6 months or a year.
You don't think you have signed a lease. Well, this is questionable. Either you did or you didn't. You need to ask the Landlord whether you can have a copy of the Lease and if he then says "what lease" - then you are clear that you didn't sign any lease??
If you didn't sign a lease, there shouldn't be anything stopping you by leaving, but, did you get a receipt for the part payment of the damage deposit? and, have you been paying the Landlord the full 425 per month since staying there of September last year??? and if you did, did you get a receipt of payment?
I would phone your "landlord and tenants act" - there should be a 1800 number.
Goodluck

Typically I would bring the cats at the same time that I moved myself. Cats can go through depression just like humans can and the sudden drastic change to a new home that doesn't contain familiar furniture OR it's pet person can throw a cat off. The best suggestion is to keep them close to you until you actually move into the new apartment yourself. The fact that there will be familiar items and family around will make the transition easier.

if there is no lease, then NO the landlord can not do anything to you. if there is a lease, he can sue you for the rest of the security deposit and money for breaking the lease. he definitely will keep the money you have given him whether or not the place is **** and span.
