If you only earned 947 dollars, and you have 3 kids, you should probably get a lot more than that using the EIC.

It's possible. With an income that low, you're unlikely to have to pay any taxes. If you had anything withheld, you'll get it back. Plus, you're likely eligible for several credits.

So, it's possible. However, it's worth double-checking your math and reading the instructions one more time just to make sure.

$947 is, as I'm sure you know, a VERY small number. Unless you're living off saved assets (which would not be in any interest, dividend, or capital gains-bearing account, since that would be considered income), I fail to see how you and your family are keeping alive. Short of being homeless (in which case I wouldn't be thinking you'd be filing taxes), how can only only have $947 in income? Do you have welfare? Unemployment? Anything?

I guess it is possible, last year i only made 4,500, and got back 2,000. this year I made 49,000 and got back only 900....with two kids both years. So who the hell knows. If you did it on any tax software, it's probably right, if you did it by hand, you may want to redo it, but it still could be right. Hope that helped.

Sounds about. You would have had to have made in between 5 and 6 thousands to be over $1,000 on your refund....

With 3 kids you should be getting the Child tax credit, did you?
Also, there is an additional child tax credit.
Did you file (EIC) Earned income credit as well?
Those might get you more money if you haven't already filed them.

You might be able to get more. With the earned income credit. Or EIC. But it shouldn't be any less than what you got.

Sounds like you got some earned income credit somewhere.

If your withholding was really, insanely high, yes, that could be correct.
