Usually when I can't sleep I will either take a nice hot bath, read a book, or watch something really boring on the history channel. Mint tea also helps to relax me. I also recently bought a scented wall plug-in thingy that seems to help (lavender and chamomile sent)

Believe it or not, but Chinese herbal medicine is a wonderful way to help you get to sleep. If you can find a Chinese shop that sells herbal remedies and medicines they will certainly be able to help. From my experience Ginsing is a good relaxant and aids in sleep. Drink it in warm water (boiled for about 30 mins to soften the root) and add some honey. Drink it about 30 minutes before bed and do this for 3 or 4 days consecutively. You should see results. If not, go back to the Chinese herbalist and ask for further advice.

Start winding down before you go to bed. Usually an hour before, sit back relax, read a book or do something that relaxes you. If you are on the go right before bed its harder to sleep. Avoid excercise before bed and anything that stresses you out.

Have you tried self-hypnosis CDs/MP3s? No idea if they work, but my hospital is now offering hypnosis to help people quit smoking and they claim a 90% or better success rate, so maybe there's something there. Check out the website below for a wide variety of self-hypnosis CDs/MP3s.

Try valerian root, camomile tea, a little turkey before bedtime (creates trytophan in brain), even warm milk.
Look into some relaxation techniques.

im currently reasearching this too.. for starters im avoiding naps. it helps somewhat. my sleep is less broken up and it just takes a few minutes to fall asleep. excercise should be done way earlier in the day and avoid caffeine close to bedtime.

If you have a partner, try having sex. It works for me and my partner. Seriously. Sex produces a euphoria, a relaxation of the muscles and relieves stress.
