I'd have to go with Hendrix, because of his innovation. I agree with your assessment of all their respective talent, but I think even they would agree (with the exception of SRV who, while he died tragically, would have agreed) Hendrix is probably one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Just imagine what he could have done if he was still alive.

Clapton all the way. If you watch videos of him playing "All Along the Watchtower" he makes it look easy. Hendrix was good but he is just legendary because he was revolutionary for his time. He couldn't hold a candle to some of the guitarists of today. Clapton however is STILL one of the best.

Well, Hendrix and Vaughn are both dead, so I think that leaves them out of the running. I'd go for Clapton. You could have included Mark Knopfler in your list, though.

jimi hendrix first, then srv, randy rhoads, then joe satriani. jimi did things that nobody even thought about doing back in the 60's. had he lived, he woulda royally kicked even randy rhoads' azz.....and it woulda been a real 'gunfight' to pit rhoads vs hendrix in a 'riff playoff' be sure.

randy rhoads was almost like a hendrix back in the early 80's with ozzy. he was the first to mix classical with heavy metal, and was the first to incorporate different 'modes' in guitar leads; 1 mode would give the song a darker solo than another mode.
