I started having trouble with my curser moving around the page by itself a couple weeks ago and thought the mouse went bad, so I bought a new one. It's a GE optical mouse. Today, it's really bad. It moves all over the page, highlights things, etc. It looks almost like someone else has control, but i know this isn't the case. Can anyone tell me what might be going on and how I could fix it? I'm running Win XP 2002 Professional SP2.
Thanks in advance!
Joan

I wouldnt be too sure about knowing someone else isnt doin it! You have a lan? Have you recently used remote desktop with someone? Sounds to me like someone has some VNC software on your PC! Movin around is one thing but if you are seeing objects being hilited, someone else is controlling your PC! Is this a PC you are using at work?

Your mouse might be designed to work on hard surface such as a bare desktop and if you use it with a mousepad it will produce the symptoms you describe. It could also be a defective product that is under warranty.

One thing to check is to make sure that you are not using a red mouse pad. This can throw off the optical light.

Try cleaning the connection on the back of your computer. Or sometimes it does that when the battery goes bad.
Mine here at work does it periodically, but it's a regular ball mouse. I think my computer here just sucks, tho. lol

actually, that might be the case.
there are programs that can do this, and its creepy (ive seen it, but it was someone at work who needed to access a file)
Here is a good way to test it.
Try downloading an antivirus program, and if the application gets closed, you know something is up.
Try disconcerting it from the internet, and see if it still does it.

Check for any cracks/ faults in the mouse mat, I had similar problems as you and I bought a hard surface mat, end of problems.

buy a new mouse and download spybot, adware, symatic anti-virus,zonealarm.
Either your mouse is busted or someone is messing with you.
