In view of the fact that Government has allowed the public transport infrastructure to decay to a state of virtual morbidity, anyone who has to go anywhere by public transport should stay at home. A mass absence might wake employers up, who would then attack government. Individuals do not count to the Government, but money/support from Industry and Commerce does make an impact.

I used to be a railwayman, and we would issue notices in times of adverse weather that people should only travel if their journey was really necessary. This meant people like nurses. But the massive commuter horde of pen-pushers, mouse-wielders and City traders all turned up, and crammed on to our trains like a host of lemmings.

Unless your job is essential to survival - like being a Doctor, Nurse, Power Worker, Sewage Worker, stay at home. Leave the roads clear for essential services and the trains similarly, and, administer a salutory lesson to Government, Industry and Commerce to boot.

Maybe then we will get progress towards the ability to work from home, decent public transport, and maybe a policy that allows people to buy decent homes near to their place of work.

Really depends where you live:

The far south and south-west of England will have only medium to heavy rain as warm air pushes in from the English channel.

The south and south-east will get anywhere up to 10cms of snow.

The midlands anywhere up to Yorkshire and most parts of wales(excluding the south coast) could see up to 20 cms at higher levels.

Northern and parts of southern Ireland will have a wintry mix with some getting rain, sleet and snow.

Scotland will see snow along most of the east coast and Edinburgh and Aberdeen could see a covering of snow by Thursday morning.

I hope this helps. Oh and by the way all of these figures are valid from 8pm on Wednesday to 8pm on Thursday. Also all figures are estimates and could vary considerably.

Friday - Saturday could see further wintry showers in Scotland, Ireland and northern parts of England. - most snow will fall in the Glasgow area on these days.

I'm worried about going to work, I live near the M11 where it ground to a halt for 11 hours the last time, and I have to drive alongside and over it. What should I do ?

Let's just all stay home and build snowmen all day long, and drink hot chocolate in front of an open fire !

weesyb is right. Snow is Nature's way of telling you to take a day off. I'm a bit fed up because I was going for a long walk with my friend, who is Canadian. I thought she'd be gleefully dusting off her crampons, but no, she doesn't fancy it either. So we're going to walk on the treadmills at the gym, then walk down the pub.

Typical bloody useless country this one.
One fall of snow and it's stuffed.
Good job we aren't in Sweden! How would we cope?
(Actually, thinking about it that's not strictly true - it's only the pissy southerners who can't cope we up in the north are used to it.)
