this is a method mate that will work...100%
this works with all bt broadband routers including the home hub
simply switch off the home hub(or router) and unplug it from the wall socket, then wait for around 30 seconds then plug it back in and switch back on(you must wait for 30 seconds)
if you have the home hub,you must then press the wireless association button on the back of the home hub for 15 to 20 seconds(if you dont have a home hub ignore this part) then all the lights will go off then appear one by one
once all the light are lit then you can use the broadband agin and you will notice a massive improvement in your speed
i sometimes use this method around once a week to give me optimal download speeds, the only downside is it resets the hub phones but it only takes 2 minutes to set up again so thats not too bad
i would also recommend a spyware scan, but you have done this
give this a go and let me know if it works
good luck mate

I have the same problem. In fact it was faster when I had the 1mb conection. Phoning bt seems to be a wast of time. No one cares. The answer is simply not to use bt broadband. Its been the worst thing I ever did.

Well if your running BT Home Hub then you have a problem as its not a fixed transfer rate but one that adapts itself to the best speed this is a let down as sometimes although mine is 8mb broadband the fastest its ever downloaded at is 600k per second its gone as slow as 700 bytes per second. So it really varies BT dont help much.

BT has a special site you may try it's www.speedtester.bt.com - on the screen enter your phone number - then the user name is speedtest_ or something like that. Just ignore the password bit. I tried it earlier all I got was error! You can also try www.speedtest.net and download from a server and it will give you a good measurement. if your exchange has just been unbundled - the wires are being replaced with fibre optic - or it's in the process - expect crappy speeds.

i bet bt are giving you the run around too when you phone them up
i had the same problem when i was with them
they tried telling me it was a yahoo falt yahoo did the same thing and neither would sort the problem out
basically there could be one or two thing wrong
A: it could be your bt phone wire faulty and signal slows due to this (but they wont admit to this)
B: it could be the filters on your bt line to modem being faulty
stick to the first though as when mine went slow i changed the filters and so on but it was the bt line at fault all along
they will never admit it

Go here for an independant test of your broadband download and upload speed http://www.bbc.co.uk/england/webcams/ and then bring this data to the attention of BT via their technical help desk.

G'day,
Contact your Internet Service Provider Tech Support, they can do a speed/line test from their office as long as you are connected to the internet

www.dslreports.com is an excellent web site that will help you trouble shoot possible problems. You may find that its actually trouble with your Internet provider. If you have DSL, you may want to make sure you don't have a filter before you modem, and that you do have one on all your phones.
