My son is 8 months old and just cut his 3rd tooth the other day. He's also cutting another one so he'll have 4 on the bottom and none on the top! But my question is how many times a day should I be brushing his teeth? I have a little infant tooth brush for him and want to get him into a routine now, so it's hopefully easier when he's older. Should it be the same times as I do? Or do I need to brush them after every meal? What do you do? Thanks, all help is appreciated!

As soon as my son started getting teeth, we started the brushing routine. I believe in setting them out on the path that we want them to continue on. Therefore, teeth brushing after every meal is part of our daily routine. He doesn't know anything different; it's just what we do. Now, at almost 20 months with a mouth full of teeth, he expects it and pretty much does it on his own (with a little bit of help from Mom every once in a while). I want to make sure that he takes care of his teeth now so when his adult teeth do come in, he'll already have the tools to take care of them. =)

You can brush your baby's teeth as often as you would like. My daughter only has two teeth and her doctor has told me that it is actually more effective to take a dry or wet cloth and wipe her teeth...opposed to brushing them, at least until she understands that she needs to keep her mouth open. It can be hard to actually get them clean.I take a small cloth and wipe her teeth several times a day. The doctor has also told me that even if I use a toothbrush, the toothpaste is unnecessary. The toothpaste doesn't have a chance to clean the teeth before the baby swallows it, so don't use it. I hope this help you! And good luck with your little one.

I use baby Orajel tooth & gum cleanser. I's okay for them to swallow. I brush after breakfast, before naptime and at bedtime. So usually 3 times a day, sometimes just twice.

Just the same as adults should but we don't LOL. After each meal and before bedtime and when we wake up.
