I don't understand why so many people are surprised at this. The scorn of a woman comes from young/old, pretty and no-so-pretty.

As long as human beings have existed, this has been going on, and it being 2007, and her being an astronaut changes NOTHING.

She wanted something bad enough that all rationality went out the window...welcome to this condition we call the human race.

It was probably the straw that broke the camel's back for her. She was probably under a lot of stress and did something very dumb & impulsive. She clearly wasn't rational in her approach. It's sad for everyone involved.

Astronauts are just employees who attained dreams of choice. They are no different from any other honored goals, such as getting a Nobel Prize, be a Poet Laurette, or even the best actor or actress, being a President or Prime Minister of a .nation, or the Highest Supreme Court Judge! She happens to have a gift for Science and Maths, and followed her dreams to become an astronaut.

It's amazing that she had a restraint order placed on her and NASA didn't know that then! Doesn't NASA have strict Security Check Systems to make sure that threatening people, or those involved with doing something against the law, should never be creeping around their vicinity and workplace?

I don't believe that surprise is the correct term. As long as we continue to fill positions from the human race we are going to have problems such as these. What I feel is at issue here is the fact that yet another highly educated, high profile, highly trained person with access to highly classified information has lost control of the most basic of their faculties. Risking not only the loss of their flight status which likely took years to earn, but more importantly the loss of trust of those closest to them; their family. And risking it over what, the affections of yet another fallible human being?

I truly believe, now more than ever that we as a people have to put others first and stop thinking of ourselves. It is this selfishness that is pushing people past the brink of stupidity all the way to the edge of destructiveness.

I think all the attention is because astronauts go through extensive mental and emotional testing, have squeaky clean records not to bring even a hint of bad behavior to the program, etc. Being chosen as an astronaut is quite an honor and to betray that honor is especially disappointing.

Most humans don't stalk people, have restraining orders placed against them, drive 900 miles in diapers to save time and
carry typical kidnap/murder paraphernalia. It's not about needing some action too especially when she had a husband.

you are absolutely right.....thanks for bringing it to everyone's
attention.....Triangles have been since the beginning of time.

I certainly don't believe that this astro-nut was charged
appropriately, "attempted murder'? PLEEEZ She is so unstable
she wore adult pampers to save time from Houston to Florida.

Isn't there some kind of penalty for the others to endure if they
were fraternizing
