Or having any evidence of any crime whatsoever against them?
Some have been there 5 years now....and still have not been told why.

Just so you know. Most of these people are not combatants. And George W's idiotic presumption that they are not offered protection under the Geneva convention has been roundly rejected by the supreme court.

Yes, it does make me sick. And angry. And frustrated that people are not raising holy hell about it.

One of the most fundamental Americanisms has been suspended by bush the Fuhrer. IT IS ILLEGAL. It is going to also be one of the reasons he's impeached.

YOU CANNOT HOLD PEOPLE IMPRISONED -- INDEFINITELY -- WITHOUT CHARGING THEM!!!!

**I just checked back in and saw several "thumbs down"......how hilarious is that?? People giving me the thumbs down for being upset that human beings are being imprisoned like animals for years without having ever been charged with a crime. If any of you lazy brainwashed creatures had any real news sources, you'd have heard by now that the majority of those poor souls in prison were simply regular people, turned in by neighbors and co-workers for THE REWARD MONEY since there's NO JOBS OVER THERE AND PEOPLE HAVE TO EAT AND PROVIDE FOR THEIR FAMILIES.

No wonder you cons are drug addicts and alcoholics--how else could you sleep at night?

What happened to Innocent until proved guilty. It is only honourable to advise a person what he has done that is illegal. Because they are on Cuban soil the US considers itself beyond the law. And their presence on Cuban soil is illegal. I don't see how the US gets away with this stuff. Also its pretty ignorant of the Geneva Convention to say that combatants must be in uniform to fight. Their women and children are being killed. You expect them to sit back and watch their families, jobs, and way of life get destroyed around them just because the invading soldiers have the right to kill.

Obama has been president for a three hundred and sixty 5 days now, Sky -- if freeing them grow to be this style of solid idea, why hasn't The Exalted One finished so? via how, quite a number of Gitmo detainees were released -- and a minimum of 20% of them (that all of us learn about!) have again to terrorist events! "with out trial or charge"? Treating them like usual previous criminals, Sky, is previous ridiculous. it really is even previous stupid. it really is risky. .

Enemy combatants have always been treated like this.

POWs are not charged or tried, either - in fact, bringing them to trial is a crime. They are not allowed to be questioned either. They are held until the war's end.

Some of the people released have been picked up again, on the batttlefield. The enemy must be laughing at us.

The Supreme Court got it wrong. It's happened before. Often enough, people expressing vires like yours one minute are saying the Supreme Court "stole" the 2000 election the next.

And many of the same folks who say they "support the war on terror but not the war in Iraq" also seem to oppose many of Bush's anti-terror surveillance and detention measures.

Go figure.

It does make me sick. What makes me more sick is the racism shown in the answers to this question; not all Arab people are terrorists, for the record. It is sad that many people do not ever question what Bush does, or even care about what is going on in our government today.

I think we should treat them as the Geneva convention dictates. Since they weren't wearing uniforms we could just shoot them and save ourselves a lot of money.

No it doesn't bother me at all. I think you're misinformed on the "no evidence whatsoever" part. All of the detainees have some connection...maybe minor...but a connection to terrorism.

The US would have no reason or interest in picking up a bunch of innocent people and holding them for crimes they didn't commit...come on!! There are plenty of terrorists, terrorist sympathizers, and people who have aided terrorists for money...that the US doesn't have to drum up charges against innocent people.

Get real!

Not at all. They are illegal enemy combatants and are afforded no rights given under the Geneva Convention. If you want them free, go free them! Maybe they can move to your neighborhood!

No one seems to care though, have you noticed that? Wait til it starts happening in the US, courtesy of the Patriot Act.
