First off. who is used improperly. Would have been better to say that.

There are hundreds of types of woodworms. The larva of just about any tree dwelling beetle will eat wood.

The is a woodworm called the furniture beetle, Anobium punctatum. http://www.bugwood.org/hungary/furnitureap.html

Many birds eat wood larva, as do mice and rats.
