So I live in Denver and work fulltime. I moved into my apartment with my friend the end of December, and about 3 weeks ago he bailed out on me. I cannot afford a 2 bedroom apartment all on my own, but the lease is until next december, and I just can't seem to find a roommate anywhere! I've posted numorous time on Craigslist, and other roommate websites. Since I work and don't go to school, I don't know many people my age who would need a place to live. The apartment is reasonably priced (417 including all utilities). Does anyone have any ideas to help me find a roommate? I'm getting desperate. Thanks

I've always had success with rent.com
Also the idea of posting an ad at the college was a good one!
If nothing else, see if you can downgrade to a 1 bedroom that you can afford. Most apartment complexes will allow you to do that without "breaking" the lease.
Good Luck!

Hmm. . . my approach has always been to find smaller apartments and just live alone so the "normal" :) people don't bug me. Can you afford to spend a while searching before you find the right roommates? You'll probably be a lot happier with the outcome if you don't need one RIGHT NOW if you are like me, although that's probably a huge space for one person at this stage in your life. Do you have to find 2 to start with, or would the costs be okay with 1 and then a shared office-ish space to serve as a buffer zone if you don't get along? Because I'm in grad school and so see these people a lot. . . would you be open to perhaps living with new international students? A lot of them seem to come over with no housing plans other than perhaps crashing on someone's couch until they find a place in a few weeks. You might be able to get put on some kind of list at the international students' office if you might be okay with that idea. Particularly if they'd be grad students, they'd probably even be around your age rather than the 18-20 crowd that might really annoy you at 24.

Try placing an ad in the paper, or how about locating a realtor and seeing if they have any suggestions. They have those apartment guides that advertise rental units with/or without roommate. Ask the people you work with if they know of someone you'd be compatible with.

Contact your friend who bailed on you and left you holding the bag, he/she should still be obligated to pay their share of the rent if their name is still on the lease! My daughter's roommate did this to her and she contacted the rental office about what her obligations would be. They let her stay in the apartment and pay her portion of the rent and are suing the roomie for the remainder. She did have to pay all the utilities herself, but wasn't obligated to pay the ones that were in his name.

Put an ad in the newspaper.

Next time you take on a roommate, have them sign a lease, and get first and last month's rent in advance.

Try to find the "free" paper in your area, ours is called the thrifty nickle or American Classifieds. Put an add in that, they are not very expensive and the paper reaches thousands of people for free?
