IA rumpled sheet of brown paper about the lenght and apparent bulk of a man was rolling with the wind slowly over and over in the street as a car drove down upon it and crushed it to the ground. Unlike a man it rose again rolling with the wind over and over to be as it was before.

It means man is not one who is likely to get up after being struck down. But like the paper you have to get up and try to regain who you were and become that person again. However, you won't be able to become that same person entirely, because you now have encountered a change in your life and can't go back to the way things were. Sometimes you need to roll with the punches and go with the flow, because life is unpredictable and you can't control it- and don't try to either. But when the worst happens, get up and keep moving forward with the punches even though travels will be slow. Never give up like people tend to do the majority of the time.
