I don't really like it - I hope this helps.

I actually said "I hope this makes sense" in an answer about soldiers the other day because I was explaining something about my brother - the answer made sense to me but I wasn't sure if it came across ok so i ended it with " I hope this makes sense"
I think if someone is going through a tough time it is a nice gesture for someone to say "I hope this helps" - perhaps it is a female thing

"I hope this helps." Is okay because they are taking the time to answer your question and they hope they are providing a valuable solution.

"I hope this makes sense." Just plain does not make sense. Why bother to try and answer something with an answer that has a chance of not making sense? If you have to "hope this makes sense" it probably will not.

Yes I do, it means that they might have put some thought into it and as far as the hope this makes sense... well sometimes it's hard to describe things in a way others can get what you are trying to say.

i often answer with "i hope this helps" if it is an advice question.

i generally think it is a nice tihng to do if you are sincere about it.

but i can see how some people may think it is just a suck up to try and get the best answer - that makes it seem alot less friendly.

i tihnk "i hope this makes sense" is a groovy end-of-answer. i will use it some time and have done when i have answered with a realy rubbishy, unthought-out question...

... a bit like this one..

... I hope think makes sense -- hehe, x

Don't be so cynical, they are hoping that their answer has been useful, there are a lot of people on here who give glib answers to serious questions, they are the ones I have a problem with. I hope this helps lol

Well it's crap really innit? If i write "i hope this helps" i'm not actually going to sit and think **** i hope that helped. It's just one of them things you do when you're on autopilot. I sincerely hope this did not help in any way or made any bloody sense:)

Yeah, it makes the answers feel more human- not like its just a computer typing it... im more likely to put a answer as a best answer if there's something human at the bottom
