millie...write a letter to your local paper complaining about them - give them a bit of 'free publicity' :) that should do the trick.

(Glad you liked the jokes tonight - I'm from the North/Ireland :)

You are obviously in Eire ( ROI) so the people referring to USA law are barking up the wrong tree. The link below should give you an oversight to your rights in Irish law.
Give the Customer Services of your existing telephone service provider a call and they should be able to help with your problem. They have a vested interest in keeping you as a customer.

These are the guys to contact if you don't get satisfaction from those above.

Department of Communications,
Marine and Natural Resources,
29-31 Adelaide Road,
Dublin 2,
Ireland

The first link below will give you an idea of your rights to privacy under the Constitution and the second link the views that some people from your country have about Eircom.

Don't know where you live, but in the UK, if you look in the front of the BT phone book there's a number you can ring for a call preference service. I think it's free of charge. It takes about 2 weeks t kick in but since ringing it, our sales calls reduced greatly. We were getting 3 or a day - this is now down to 2 a month.

The next time they call you, tell them the following: (1) You're not interested in what they're selling, (2) You want them to remove you from their call and mailing lists IMMEDIATELY, and (3) If they do not honor your wishes you will report them to the Federal Communications Commission. By law, they MUST do as you ask. After you hang up the phone, make a note of the date and time they called. If they bother you again after that, file a complaint with the FCC and your local chapter of the Better Business Bureau.

Whenever I get these phone calls I ask them to hold the line whilst I get the home owner and I leave the phone on the side for about 10-15 minutes or until they hang up - they usually get the message

Tell them that their constant unwelcome visits are harassment and the next time they call, you will get the guards to them. If they carry on then maybe a solicitors letter will stop it. Or phone your local radio station to find out how many other people are going through the same thing.

The person with the "don't call" site has the right idea. If you tell them to not call and they do, they can be fined hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

if they ever call again...accuse them of harassment on the phone and mention that you're feeling like you're being "stalked".... it will work well if the phone conversation is being recorded....
another strategy is when they call pretend that its your friend that's calling you and that she/he is playing a joke on you.....until hopefully the person will get annoyed and hang up
