I had to think about this for a minute.
One actually shoots the ball by resting the ball on the PADS of the palm, which is the area where the calluses are, along with the fingers. When in the process of shooting, then, the shooter rolls the ball forward from the pads of the palm, then along the fingers to the tips, thereby imparting that ideal backward spin to which all hoopsters aspire.
Hopefully, if he or she has aimed accurately, and controlled and released the ball correctly, it goes in! :-)

The ball should be resting on the pads of your fingers. Bend the knees slightly, shooting elbow under the ball. Follow through with arms and hands, with your shooting hand ending in a goose neck. A proper shot will have a slight backward rotation.

you dont have to lay the ball in your palms when you realease the ball should come off your fingertips and follow through with a flick of the wrist. Dont forget to spread your fingers apart elbows bent and aimed at the rim bend your knees and release at the top of your jump.

Use your fingers. Using your fingers and snapping your wrist is what gives the ball rotation. If you use the palm of your hand the release of your shot will be messed up and your jumper will not be accurate

In the palm but when you shoot the fingers control the shot and be sure to follow thru. Try this........When you shoot the ball, imagine the ball going thru the hoop. This takes deep concentration but if you practice it with every shot, it will soon come naturally and you will double or triple your goal percentage.

Fingers. Keep your elbows tucked in, keep your feet shoulder width apart, stay square to the basket, follow through, and you will make the shot (at least I do and i'm only 12 nearly 13) 4 out of 5 times from withing the 3 point arc. Outside, 3-5, which is quite good. (the only problem I have is my height. I'm pretty short and not to fast>:-(

You do everything with the fingers. Shaq misses free throws because he shoots with his palms.
