Good answers thus far but not as easy as some have indicated. The 220 volt outlet you need needs to be a dedicated 40 amp breaker with the proper size wiring. Most of your existing wiring is 110 volt and cannot be substituted for the amperage you need. And yes, sometimes the builder will provide both a 220 volt outlet and gas, but not always.

You'll need the proper outlet for your electric stove, which would be a 220. If it's not there, you'll have to pay an electrician to put one there. Gas stoves usually just use a 110 outlet so that might be all that is there right now.

Normally even homes set up for Gas have the optional electrical outlet for an electric stove. look on the wall for a strange shaped recepticle with three plug holes in it....that would be your 220 V . you might have to change your plug or recepticle to match as there are several types of plugs available. An Electrician could do that for you very quickly.

The National Electrical Code (NEC) now calls for a 4 prong plug to be used on range hook ups. As said above in earlier answers, it is a 220V circuit. I would have a certified electrician install the wiring and plug for you. Depending on how old your range is, you may also have to replace the plug on the range from a 3 prong to the 4 prong type.

Cheaper if you stay with gas. Cheaper to buy another stove than to change over to electric. You can buy a nice used stove, for cheap.......

Sorry, but no! You can either invest in a Gas stove. Or call an electrician to install the outlet, wiring, and breakers. The alternatives are costly. You can always quit baking and cook your food on a grill outside! Just trying to be helpful.

Usually not unless you pay to have the 220 hook up added. Gas is soooooo much nicer to cook with. If you can get one, even used, I'd get a gas stove.
