Or will they stay on this fake "Neoconservative" platform of HUGE spending, big brother government, huge deficits, and forcing all in the party to agree on everything, while hanging the conservatives who disagree out to dry? I would sure like vote GOP in 08. But the Dems get my vote unless the party comes up with a REAL conservative!

I would love to see the GOP return to the principles of Eisenhower. They need to drop this Reagan-Bush/Neo-Con ideology of "government is evil" and "unitary executive". What you're seeing with the GOP isn't new; indeed, it's a holdover from the days of the Federalist & Whig parties, who believed in Edmund Burke's ideals of society being ordered by classes, aristocracy being a good thing, and the middle class being a threat to stability. People still scoff when I tell them that Reagan was probably one of the worst Presidents ever, but they don't understand the historical context of my assertion.
Indeed, who could consider Eisenhower "conservative" today, especially given his beliefs like:
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."
It shows just how radical and extreme the mainstream GOP has become thanks to the likes of Reagan, Bush, Norquist, etc.
Ike warned us about this crowd during his farewell speech, and I suggest reading it or listening to it. He coined the phrase "military-industrial complex" and warned that it would increasingly demand policy be shaped to fit its needs (that is, make profits via unnecessary conflict). I think we can all agree that Ike had a very good point, given the influence of Halliburton, GE, et al with the decision to invade Iraq and the subsequent no-bid contracts given to cronies of the administration.
If you consider yourself conservative, I suggest that you do what we liberals/progressives are doing with the Democratic party. We're taking it back from the extremists and puppets of the lobbyist crowd. Get active locally, and make the change there. One that's done, start moving up to the county, then the state. You'll be surprised what just a few motivated citizens can do to clean up a corrupt system. Chances are you're not the only one who's tired of the way things are. But you might be the only one who will speak up and do something about it.
As Thom Hartmann says: "Democracy begins with you. TAG! You're IT!"

The current Republican party is an embarrassment from the President on down. But that doesn't mean you couldn't do some serious damage by voting Democrat. If you can't vote Republican (and I wouldn't blame you), vote independent. By all means stop giving money to the Republican party when they call for donations on the phone.

I hope this neocon phase ends with Bush, I agree with you. I'm a conservative but I can't support the current ideology, hopefully the higher ups will realize it's a mistake and correct it.

they have desperate to prostitute themselves to the optimal bidder. And suited now, legislating morality and massive Brother peering over "anybody else's" shoulder is what the non secular suited is clamoring for. And btw- neither of those are even remotely "liberal"; it is closer to fascism, or extreme Conservatism- a totalitarian government with a unfastened-industry economic gadget, like pre-WWII Germany.
