The so-called extended bunch of ASCII?

Because in word I can use the alt button to acquire certain symbols, but on different computers I get different symbols for the same actions.

Different system font perhaps... the extended ASCII of say Windows Arial font will be the same for that font on any computer. If that is the default system font you will get the same results... If it's a different font, you will start to see some variations in the extended font set.

Different fonts will often have different characters for extended ASCII codes. This is because there are multiple standards for 8-bit ASCII, as opposed to 7-bit ASCII that has a single standard set of characters.

There is only one ASCII, it is a standard, the "extended" is just a continuation,of the standard, however different computer may not adhere to the standard.
