If I bring a major class action lawsuit (big business) to a particular firm, is it ethical for me to expect some kind of "finder's fee" or extra cut for bringing the business?

I already know how attorneys would respond to this - it's obvious.

Anyone else have an opinion, suggestion, or fact on this?

Thanks!

Andy

Lead Plaintiffs in class action suits are allowed to collect some additional $$ over & above the class members to compensate them for their time & inconvenience. But it is not a lot. It is illegal for attorneys to "split fees" with non-lawyers, or to pay referral fees or finders fees or commissions to non-lawyers. Since judges must approve all fees & expenses in class action settlements, you'd have to find a lawyer willing to break the law big time. That being said, some well known class action specialists have been caught doing just that. We get to read about their disbarments & prosecutions in The NY Times & Wall St. Journal.

Class action suits take years and of course the additonal people to back you up. Also, in a class action suit, expect less monitary reward than you would get in a one on one law suit. You probably know this already, however, my best advise is to get a free consultation from a lawyer that specializes in this type of thing. If he thinks it is a good case he will take it and advise you what to do. Be ready to be in it for the long haul. Also , let the lawyer know that you as spokesman for the group want an addtional percentage as in the instance of a executor of a will . Good luck.
