I dislike the "either/or" notion (except for age of consent; I'd hate to aid perverts).

Historically, societies deemied puberty to be adulthood... while our society may be too complicated for that approach fully, I do think that some measure of self-responsibility should be placed upon teens to allieviate our current teen-alienation society. By pretending age 17.99 is the same as age 1, 8 or 12 is rather insulting, and wastes psychologically and physically what could be a very meaningful time for young people to develop their identities.

But since we don't, we have irresponsible people of all ages.

If 14 was an age of "junior adulthood" rather than "extended childhood," then 18, 21 or 25 might be thresholds for progressively more genuinely adult adults.

I will say adulthood generally align with the age you start to join work force full time.

I define adulthood is the age you start to take on responsibilities of yourself and your dependents on yourself. That is around the time it happens.

We all know that children enter childhood when we determine
that they are doing things that make childhood apparent --
perhaps adulthood comes with the advent of apparent adultry ?

I think it varies from person to person (and probably from culture to culture as well). But I will say every single person I know well changed/matured dramatically between the ages of 21 and 26, so I think the majority of one's "adult personality" is formed during those years.

most people dont ever reach that point. ignorance and stupidity leave them in an adolescent state that can last for a lifetime. if we all really acted like adults none of the problems we have in society would be occuring over and over again.

once you can provide entirely for your self with out needing to borrow money every other day
putting what is needed in front of what is wanted- IE getting your kids what they need over getting your nails done or paying your bills over going out getting drunk

Legally it appears to be 18. I personally don't think there's a right age.. it's all about your maturity level.
