My husband and I just stayed there in November. We loved it and would definitely stay there again. If you don't feel like having a big breakfast in the morning, McDonald's is in the food court and it's just a trip down the elevator away. Lots and lots of other restaurants. The rooms were wonderful. The place is HUGE so walk around and check everything out when you get there. The Grand Cafe is a great restaurant - open 24 hours which is important. We have stayed in about every casino on the strip and loved MGM. ALSO - I believe the amusemark park is no longer there and they are building Condos on the site. We walked all over the grounds and saw no signs for the amusement park.

Well, the one thing it is is HUGE.
I've stayed there twice (got married there once) and the rooms are nice, about the same as Mirage, not as nice as Bellagio or Mandalay Bay, better than NYNY. Never stayed in the older tower, but many have said that those rooms are not so nice.
But some days there you just get tired from all the walking.
There's a good set of restaurants, but they change a lot. But Emeril's is OK. Nobhill is good.
They do have by far the best gift shop in the lobby.
The poker room is nice. The race/sports book area is also HUGE.
A couple of other nice features is it's close to the airport. Also you can get to a number of other properties on foot from MGM (start at NYNY across the street and go to Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay) and there's a monorail stop to take you northward.
Some people like it because it's so big, especially since they have so much casino floor you can find tables with lower minimums, and you can literally stay in the MGM because it has a good nightclub (Studio 54), and good restaurants.
Some people don't like it cause it's so big, there's so many people, you walk so much every day, etc...

A couple hundred million dollars worth of condos sit on top of the old amusement park. But the pool area is still really nice.
If you get a room at MGM, don't let them stick you in the recently renovated West Wing (the short part of the building sticking out towards the strip). This is the oldest part of the building and the rooms are tiny tiny tiny. Seriously, some of the smallest hotel rooms I have ever seen.
The regular rooms are regular. Regular size, decorated like regular rooms. Renovation is supposed to start towards the end of this year. You can often get good deals on upgrades to suites with jacuzzis and wetbars if you go during an off week.
There are tons of restaurants and several shows, so if you never want to leave you won't have to.
Overall it's not my favorite place, but it is a good all around property and the prices are usually reasonable.

Jeez - The amusement park has been closed for years now.
One of the major selling points of MGM is simply that its truly a one-stop-shop for all things Las Vegas. Every hotel attempts to match that feat in an attempt to keep gamblers on property spending money but no place does it with as much style, class, taste, fun as MGM.
The various nightlife venues are some of the best in town - 54 is a great club and on Sunday its the best in town. Tabu the ultra-lounge is a fantastic lounge where even the lighting will amaze you.
Dining, you really can't beat their assortments of offerings. Diego is a wonderful restaurant that was developed by Rick Bayless from PBS cooking show fame. Perhaps you like Emeril Lagasse or Wolfgang Puck. Maybe you want a Nathan's Hot Dog? Perhaps pizza. Its all there and with prices for every wallet.
Regarding the rooms, again, there is a room type for most every wallet. The simple Deluxe Room is clean, well manicured, and priced to match Monte Carlo, Luxor, Ballys, Paris, Palms etc. If you want to have the single greatest hotel room stay of your life (arguably of course) splurge for a Skyloft room. You get your own butler and a Bugatti sports car to show you around town.
The pool is massive, more than enough chairs and bungalows for all. Convention services are the best in the city. And show entertainment is the single greatest in town. I have personally seen the Rolling Stones and Madonna at this venue. No other venue in Las Vegas gets this same caliber of entertainment. On any given night, catch a great stand-up act such as Howie Mandel or George Carlin. Perhaps KA - the Cirque du Soleil show is your style.
Simple put, there is no better SINGLE hotel in all of Las Vegas with as many quality amenities as MGM Grand.

I've never stayed at the MGM before, but I have been there before. It's a nice hotel. As far as I know, they closed down the amusement park that was in the back. Still, there are plenty of things to do there and at other nearby hotels. Check out websites of different hotels to get an idea of what you'll want to do while you're visiting Las Vegas.

I have not stayed there, but I have been there. They have lions, I believe, inside the hotel. Also, there is a nice pool and a small amusement park in the back. The hotal also has it's own mall inside, as do many of the big Las Vegas hotels/casinos on the strip. They usually have some big-name headliner shows. From what I have seen, it is pretty nice.
Here's the web cam at the MGM Grand: http://www.earthcam.com/usa/nevada/lasvegas/
Looks a lot warmer there than it is here in freezing Wisconsin. I'm jealous.

It looks like art deco. The 1930's equivalent of the modern office interior. The shows are as good as anything on the strip. The rooms are good but not super roomy. The buffet is all you can ask for. You will have a good time!
