Depends on the terms of your custody. If you become free from your group home at 18 then you are free to go. Some terms of custody require you to remain in the group home for a certain amount of time, not until a certain age. If you walk away before the term is served you will be in trouble not your man.
You are legally an adult everywhere in the US at 18, even in Alabama

You are in custody for what reason? Did your parents not want you, are you an orphan or were you an bad egg with an attitude? I do not want that to sound rude, but if you are in there for the last reason, then you are probably not ready to be engaged. Think of it this way, you are in custody, you have not had a chance to live a normal teenaged life, do you want to be burdened with a marriage which takes work and a lot a responsibility before you have had a chance to have your own time and live a little. You owe that to yourself as well as you owe it to yourself to find out who you really are and who you want to be. Don't be hasty, marriage is not just something to brag about , it is something that takes hard work and dedication, it is also not a means of escape are you really ready??? Take your time, have a chance to become you, before you take on the responsibility of a relationship.

Check the terms of your custody arrangement with the state. In many states, once you turn 18, the next day you are no longer a ward of the state and under their jurisdiction. Life is tough, so don't rush into anything, and consider marriage very carefully before you do it, or you will be asking next, how to get out from that situation.

Ask about a petition for emancipation as long as you can prove you can care for yourself it will be granted, ask your social worker for full details. You will need to have a job and complete High School - but you will e considered an adult in any court of law.
