I have got three pearl gouramis, when i got home my tanks temperature was about 60 degrees, and one of them was very motionless on the bottom of the tank. i think it was because the water was so cold for some reason the thermostat didnt kick in. He is not dead yet but does not look good. what can i do to save him, should i take him out?

The Pearl Gourami is native to rivers of Malaysia, Borneo and Sumatra. They like a temperature range between 74 and 82. With the higher end of their range used for breeding.

I would try taking out about 25% of the water and adding warmer water to immediately bring your temp up a few degrees. Then make sure your heater is working and allow it to fully heat to at least 78.

Most likely the fish will recover if his water is warmed up gradually.

Good luck

All you can is allow the temperature to increase slowly. If your increase the temperature too rapidly, it will shock the fish.
Get a new heater and let it do the warming of the water. That's all you can do, either the gourami will recover or he won't.

Did you proprely acclimate the fish when you brought them home? 60F is very cold for gouramis but they should be able to stand it for a little while. If you did not acclimate, in the future, do so: float the bag in the water for about 10 minutes then open the bag and slowly fill it up with water from the tank (add like half a cup every 10 minutes until it's full) then net the fish, release it, and throw away the water in the bag.

Oh, one last thing: the steady temp should be more like 78F, not 72F.

can you heat the tank up to 70s? cold can stress a fish. when he is cold he is more suseptable to bacteria and parasites. he sounds like he might have gotten "cloudy eye" which is a bacteria you can treat with antibiotics. i would warm the tank asap. and if you go with antibiotics provide him a warm separate tank.

The only thing you can do is wait...don't turn your heater up too high, he needs to gradually warm up so he doesn't get even worse. Just gradually warm the water, and hope he makes it.
