Hi, my car got impounded about 14 days back because i was driving with no insurance(i know) The court told me they only handle tickets, but for a hearing i would have to call the impound place. I have called and left a voicemail for the only person in this city who handles this(Phoenix) and he was suppose to call me back withinh 48 hours max, and that was 5 days ago. I have called back, and they always transfer me to his voicemail. What should i do? I know this is good for them, because they keep the cars and sell them, but i need my car back. The impound was set for 30 days. Any suggestions?

I'd send them a letter, registered mail, with return receipt requested detailing what steps you have accomplished to rectify the situation. That's what we call CYA! Then, if they attempt to auction off the car, you have recourse to some sort of action and recovery. In the meantime, keep trying to phone the person and, if necessary, write to him/her as well and explain that you've been trying to reach that person to remedy the action and retrieve your car. A visit to the impound yard might also work, since they're in contact with the "boss" nearly every day, I would think.

I suggest finding that guy's office and trying to talk to him in person. It's gonna be a pain, but be gentle and firm and very very persistent and you might shake something loose.

Also, you might try talking to the Highway Patrol themselves. Or the impound manager's boss, if he has one. See if anyone else has had this problem... if you're lucky there might be one of those investigative journalists doing a story on this problem.

This is all just my common sense BS... I have no experience with what you've gone thru specifically, and have never been to Arizona.
