Because people don't understand that winning isn't an end result. It's about you being yourself. If you have to change who you are or lie about something than you've cheated yourself. People play games because they can't handle the reality.

They can't handle flaws, being wrong, or losing some combination of those. Either way mind games should not be played. If people don't appear to make coherent decisions than they should be left in their world.

There are certain evilness in everyone. Someone think that if they can trick other people, they are superior than those are being tricked.

So they play those mind games just to satisfy themselves thinking they are better then others. It is an act of belittling others.

Little did they know that they are just being shallow.

They feel insecure, and by pulling one over on you they have a reason to feel superior. It's a way of protecting themselves. Although personally, I find it too difficult - I have way more important things to do than worry about everyone else and how to mess up their head(s).
