i have a laptop and it is running windows vista.

it will connect to a unsecured wireless network but it will not connect to a secured network! i know the password for the secured network but it won't even let me enter the name...

i know the ssid name but when i type it in it does not save it.
so i went to the command prompt and typed the following:

C:\ netsh wlan add filter permission=allow ssid=the ssid name networktype= infrastructure

when i press enter the following error appears:
ERROR: function WlansetFilterList returns 5. The requested operation requires elevation.

Windows Vista now includes WPA2 encryption. It may be defaulting to it instead of WPA - unless the security for the wireless network you are connecting to is actually new enough to be setup for WPA2. Most likely, it's not.

Since Vista is pretty new, I have learned only that much about the wireless integration of the system.

I hope this helps.
