You can get a rabbit from anywhere, they will get along great!

Adding a rabbit is not much more work then having just the pig. Prove to your mom that you can take care of the guinea pig on your own. And just ask her

It sounda like you already made up your mind. For the pig's sake I will say that this is a decision that you will one day regret. Could you live with yourself if your rabbit binkied in joy and broke your guinea pig's spine? They are fragile creatures. Unfortunately if you do this the rabbit still needs to be neutered, a stuffed animal and a real animals are lightyears away from making an informed decision. He knows that the stuffed animal isn't alive and dominance humping will ensue. A rabbit can easily turn a pigloo onto it's back and get to the guinea pig.Rabbits have different healthy bacteria than guinea pigs and can pass on this bacteria through poop which your guinea pig will eat, no question about that. Food should be left out all day for both rabbits and guinea pigs because they are foragers and eating once or twice or even three times a day simply isn't enough, they eat from their food bowl at least once an hour every day, it would be cruel to restrict food. but like I said, you don't seem open to any other opinions and will choose the person that agrees with you as your best answer because that's what you want to hear. Can you even afford a vet bill should your pig get sick or hurt from this arrangement if you can't afford a simple neuter? I wouldn't risk it, I have been on lots of guinea pig forums and the people sound just like you until something awful and preventable happens and they realize that it's all their fault. I couldn't live with the guilt.

Do NOT get a rabbit for your guinea pig! Technically, they could "play" together, but only for a short while and strictly under supervision. Under NO circumstances should a rabbit and guinea pig LIVE together! A) Yes, a rabbit could very well (without meaning to) kill a guinea pig and B) they have VERY different diets from each other.

And personally, I think that guinea pigs stink worse than rabbits. Rabbits can be easily littertrained (whereas a guinea pig's entire cage is their bathroom), so as long as you clean it frequently, a healthy rabbit shouldn't smell at all. I "babysat" my sister-in-law's 2 guinea pigs for a week and I could definitely tell a difference in smell!

Definitely check out this website for more info about guinea pig/rabbit relationships:

Buy your guinea pig another one of its kind, if you think it is lonely. If you want the added responsibility of another pet, I would do as much research on rabbits before asking your Mum for one. Keep in mind that a baby rabbit gets bigger and they can live for 10 - 15 years!

That's great that you want to get your little piggie a friend! A drawf rabbit is the best kind of breed of rabbit for a pal for a piggie. You can find rabbits for sale from almost anywhere. Check your newspaper and pet stores.

Rabbits are a bit more smelly than the average guinea pig (who doesn't smell if the cage is frequently cleaned) so you would need to clean the cage three times a week (since guiena pigs need cleaned twice a week). It's a little more responsibility, but if you can handle it I suggest you do so!

Also, if you room your piggie and your rabbit together they're going to need a rather large cage. Piggies require a 3x3 cage just by itself, and usually a 4x4 for two. If you add a bunny to the mix you may need a 4x4 cage or a 4x3 cage for your two pets. Make sure you have the space needed first before running out and getting a new pet!

Usually, another guinea pig (of the same sex) will do just as well!

I don't think a rabbit would help. It wouldn't be able to play much with a rabbit. Try getting another guinea pig. Make sure they are the same gender first unless you want allot of guinea pigs.

I would also consider getting your guinea pig a guinea pig friend. There are several rescues within an hour or so of you. Bothwell Bridge SSPCA always has lots of guinea pigs looking for homes - they had a litter of babies recently, too. Milton SSPCA in Glasgow also had piggies recently, and the Cat and Dog home sometimes, too. Thistle Cavies is a dedicated guinea pig rescue in Perth.

There are sooo many homeless pigs across Scotland - they need a home before you go out and buy one!

The guinea pig is lonely, they are very socialbe animals and when they are alone they get depressed. but a rabbit is not the way to go you need another guinea pig. Rabbits dont communicate like guinea pigs do. have you ever heard of guinea pigs talking? Its when they sit there and chatter and make alot of noise like "wheet wheet" and things like that. when i first got mine i only got one and he wouldnt eat or anything cuz he was depressed. and to convice your mom explain to her whats going on with the guinea pig and if it will help find and internet article that says about them needing friends. Hope i helped

a rabbit can kill a guinea pig easily. if your piggie is lonely you could get another piggie so it won't be lonely any more. a rabbit can squash a guinea pig and hurt it by kicking it. it has been known that rabbits and piggies can get along well but it would be better that your piggie had another piggie to play with than a rabbit.

Guinea pigs and rabbits should not be kept together.

They have drastically different nutritional needs, can hurt each other, and rabbits carry bacteria that can be deadly to guinea pigs without harming themselves.
