I think she just had 3, it's hard to tell because of all the fur over them. But I don't dare to touch anything yet,I heard it's good to wait a day or so, is this right? But I need to peek to see how many there are, and if they are all alive, would the mother defend them, or eat them if I go around the babies then? She's really good so far. Thanx!

You should not mess with the babies for about a week. If you touch them the mother might kick the babies out and not take care of them. My rabbit has had four liters and we have found out if you just leave them alone for about a week more of them will live. After they are about 3 weeks old you can start trying to feed them normal rabbit food.

I Love Rabbits ! We raised them for years but it was very hard for me to leave them alone. My husband lived on farms all of his life and I'd never had many animals. He finally convinced me that animals have very strong instinct that tell the just what to do and if I butted in I was messing up a very natural process that has gone on since time began. He also convinced me that if something tragic happened like the babies dying or her eating them then that's natural too and there was likely something wrong with them. I never had a mom eat a baby but have heard of it before. It's rare. I have heard of male rabbits killing babies and always seperated my rabbits around delivery time. Remember, rabbits can have babies every 29 days ! The way to know if mating is sucessful is that the male falls over on his back in a dead faint. A baby rabbit grows up very fast nand if you're not careful you'll get covered in rabbits. Good Luck !

You can put your hand in the nest and take a peek. You will need to remove any dead babies immediately. The mom may be nervous, but they usually don't bother you. They will not abandon their babies because of your smell or you touching them. Make sure they are well covered with the mothers fur, and leave her to take care of them.
