For instance:

People who say Fox news is biased to the right call their news "propaganda" while those that that do not call their news "information."

And people who say NPR is biased to the left all their news "propaganda" while those who think there is no bias call their news "information."

So is ALL American news propaganda of some sort or is it all just information...and how can you tell the difference?

Every one who writes has a reason for which they are inspiered to write the story they write. We all have our own take on the info we see or read. All broadcasts and articles have a biased spin weather slight or intense. This can not be helped it is human nature. Even the journalist who tries to be unbiased, often sub consciously puts a slight or subtile twist on the story. It is up to us to gather as much info from as many (differant) sources as possible ie to gain knowledge or to educate our selves , before we can make a well informed decision. It is up to you to decide what is propaganda and what is not. Main stream news media puts a slant on a story that is supposed to be unbiases reporting, because thats what sells. They are in business to make money.
If you have ever seen the Reuters new teletype I think you would agree it is pretty basic to the point and facts, pretty bland. In America Just the facts wouldn't have many tv viewers tuning in.
Traditionally propaganda is trying to persuade you to have a ceritaian ideolgy through exageration and or fabrication. You could argue that main stream media is subtile propoganda. They do not have a grand plan to indoctrinate us with. There are no secret meetings between CBS,FOX,ABC,andNBC where they try to come up with a common philosophy to force upon the American people. Try to ask why the media presented the material the way it was presented? What could be there motives? Do your research and you will be able to discerne between propaganda and attempts to unbiasly report the facts in a manner which keeps viewers tuned in. I couldn't get my spell checker to work. Please forgive spelling and grammatical errors.

News are facts. A columnist may express his views but if news are not facts, the media which is publishing/broadcasting will loose creditability. However, there is bias in selection and presentation as feeling of audience is very important. For instance you will not like to hear about the good work done by Saddam for his country.
People normally have fixed ideas and judge the news from their view point. All American news are not propaganda. There is lack of perception.
If you have a depth study of the matter and have analytical approach you can easy read between the lines what is reality.
Columnist express their own view point and may be biased.

All news outlets contain a certain element of "propaganda" so everything must be taken at least with a few grains of salt. But news outlets aren't nearly as bad as the political parties themselves who spin everything to a favorable light for themselves and an unfavorable light to the other party. The bottom line is that truth is like beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder.

The majority of the news outlets with the exception of a few newspapers are biased to the left. The Watergate era spawned a generation of liberal nitwits who want to be the next Bob Woodward or Carl Bernstein and this off course plays right into the journalism professors who are overwhelmingly leftist.
